Corie
Rife, second from left, is the first recipient of the Susan Belcher Memorial
Scholarship at the Appalachian School of Law. Created by Shirley Belcher
of Grundy (left), the award is in memory
of Susan Michelle Belcher, who benefited from changes created by law, including
school equality and inclusion, epilepsy medication approvals, and removal of
physical barriers. The scholarship, also in honor of Susan’s sister, Julia M.
Belcher, is given to a female student from Buchanan Country, Virginia, or Floyd
County, Kentucky. Joining Ms. Rife and Mrs. Belcher are Glenna Owens, Associate
Director of the Law Library (second from right), and Dean Lucy McGough (right).
