ASL's Amanda Coop to give presentation: The United States vs. The Internet: A Discussion of Recent Legislation that Could Chip Away at First Amendment Protection of Speech in Cyberspace

 

2L Amanda Coop, will give a presentation to which you are cordially invited.  It will take place on Wednesday, April 24 at 9:00 AM in Room 214 of the Booth Center:


The United States vs. The Internet: A Discussion of Recent Legislation that  Could Chip Away at First Amendment Protection of Speech in Cyberspace.


The presentation will review and discuss the First Amendment Implications of:  Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act (PIPA), and the re-tooled Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA).  This discussion will briefly explain the purpose of these acts, the ramifications its provisions may hold when applied,  the troubling language within,  and other concerns that arise when these acts are considered in the context of  the First Amendment.


There will be an opportunity for questions and answers before the presentation concludes at 10:15.
